There are a few areas which are not suitable for independent travel and we don't allow roadtrippers to go there with our rental cars. Please read which areas require to go with one of our drivers or in convoy.
These are off-limit areas for independent travel:
- North east: the notorious RN5 beyond Soanierana- Ivongo up to Masoala. Alternative to another off the beaten track rainforest is Marojejey instead of Masoala. You get there by taking the RN4 up north to Montagne d'Ambre, and travel south via the RN5a ( bad road) up to Marojejy. You can drop off your vehicle at the airport of Diego Suarez.
- South east: the RN12 beyond Manakara to Fort Dauphin.
- South: the RN13 from Ihosy to Ambovombe.
- The Makay: you need to go with a driver.
Let us know if you are interested to explore these remote areas, as we do organise 4x4 challenges in convoy.
